The Arts Society Leicester present Peggy Guggenheim: A Life of Collecting
Speaker - Charlie Hall
Describing herself by writing, "I am a museum", Peggy Guggenheim's life took a clear path. From setting up a commercial gallery in London, going on a single-minded shopping trip to Paris in the late 1930s, even as German tanks were rolling into the suburbs, to escape (with her selection of European artists) to New York. There the subsequent establishment of her museum (and arts centre), and finally the purchase of the eccentric 'unfinished palazzo' in Venice, her collection remains one of the most iconic assemblages of 20th century art in the world.
Please note this month’s lecture is on the third Wednesday of the month, not on the usual fourth Wednesday.

From September to June ASL present a programme of lectures covering a wide range of interests and tastes with an informative line-up of speakers talking about a variety of subjects. Members - membership of ASL offers the chance to enjoy nine lectures a year in addition to many other benefits including newsletters and volunteering opportunities plus the option to take part in visits, study days and an annual social event.
Visitors - non-members are most welcome to attend up to two lectures annually, it is an excellent way to try out membership. Just come along and pay on the door, attendance at one lecture costs £10.
