A group of talented students put a smile on the faces of commuters this morning as they performed a flashmob at Leicester Railway Station.

The 25-strong choir, made up of musical theatre students from LeicesterCollege, treated passengers to a set including Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself,Pink’s Just Give Me a Reason, Alexander Hamilton from US musical Hamilton, andthe classic tune Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

The performance took place around 8.30am and involved youngsters aged between 16 and 22, all of which are on the BTEC Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) course at Leicester College.

One of the singers was Katie Ramshaw, 17: “It’s amazing to be a part of it. Nobody expects it, so it’s a nice surprise for people when they get off the train,” she said.
“The majority of people at eight o’clock in the morning are still half asleep, so it’s a nice way for them to wake up!”

Also showing her musical prowess was Katie Houseman, 17: “It’s really nice to get the opportunity to make people smile in the morning. It’s funny watching people go by and start singing along.”

Providing keyboard accompaniment was course leader Eddie Burton.

“We performed at the station last year and because there was such a good response from the public, we were invited to perform again this year.

“It’s nice and free. There’s no stage, no restrictions. There’s a very direct connection with the audience, which is great.”
