This non-accredited course runs from St Margaret's Campus, each Wednesday, 9:30 - 12:00 for 8 weeks starting on 27 November and finishing on 5 February 2025. This is a tutor-led improver's course during which you will build on the skills from the beginner’s course to make a variety of soft furnishings. This will include a pair of curtains and a Roman blind with the maximum measurements of: Curtains - finished width 1.5m x finished drop 1m Roman blind - finished width 1m x finished drop 1.5m
During this course you will learn: - Health and safety, safe working practice regulations - How to measure and calculate for window dressings - About different curtain linings and their use - How to creating a small Roman blind or a small pair of pinch pleat curtains. Dimensions to be stipulated - How to create a hand finished curtain sample using a variety of different pleating styles - How to create a piped and zipped cushion cover.
This course is suitable for those who have completed an Introduction to Soft Furnishings - Curtains, Cushions and Blinds course or have some previous experience in making these before. You must be aged 19+ and be able to complete a short workbook on a weekly basis with the help of your tutor.
There are no formal assessments, exams or coursework. Your tutor will informally assess your progress each week. You will receive a certificate of course completion based on your progress in class and attendance.
- Annual Tuition fee: £80
The cost of the course is £90.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you are in receipt of one of the following benefits: - Universal Credit - JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group) There will be no fees if you earn less than £25,000.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required or sent a conditional offer according to the course's entry requirements. You will then be invited to enrol for your chosen course.
