This exciting 7 week course builds intermediate skills for creating advanced leathercraft items. These items can be both decorative and practical. You will learn to produce patterns for your projects. Then, you'll cut, prepare, stitch, finish, and embellish your work. You will also use advanced hand tools, techniques, and products. As you progress, these skills will help you create personalized craftwork. This course is held at St. Margaret's campus every Thursday from May 1 to June 12, 2025. Classes run from 1 to 4 pm. The course also aims to help you return to education. It prepares you for further learning or work. Additionally, it boosts your confidence and improves your health and well-being.
During this 7 week programme, you will learn all about leather craft. You will create various advanced leather items. The classes will include learning about: Types of leather and materials for advanced projects. Techniques for producing patterns for advanced designs. Quality standards and methods for precise cutting. Advanced skiving methods. Types of awls and their uses. Higher-level stitching techniques and methods. Tools needed for advanced projects. Moulding leather. Leather dyeing and embellishment. Health and safety in leather crafts and in the workshop
No previous experience is necessary, just an interest in the subject.
There are no assessments or exams. Your tutor will support and guide you through the course and help you develop your skills through one-to-one feedback.
- Annual Tuition fee: £75
You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study. For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short learner details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
