This course runs from St Margaret's Campus. It is each Wednesday, 9:30 am - 12p m for 8 weeks, starting on 12 February and finishing on 9 April 2025. This is a tutor-led beginner's course. You will make a portfolio of samples. It should use the basic skills needed to create various soft furnishings.
During this course, you will learn: Health and safety, safe working practice regulations. A variety of different hand stitches and their applications in soft furnishings. How to use a sewing machine. How to apply interlining to curtain fabrics. Suitability of different types of fabrics for different projects. How to create mitred corners. Each week, you will produce samples. They must show your skills and techniques. This will build a portfolio for your future projects.
This course is designed as an introduction to soft furnishings skills and is suitable for those students who have not yet completed a soft furnishings course before. You must be aged 19+ and be able to complete a short workbook every week with the help of your tutor.
There are no formal assessments, exams or coursework. Your tutor will informally assess your progress each week. You will receive a certificate of course completion based on your progress in class and attendance,
- Annual Tuition fee: £90
The cost of the course is £80.00. However, you will not be required to pay a fee for this course if you receive one of the following benefits: - Universal Credit - JSA or ESA (Employment and Support Allowance Work Related Action Group) There will be no fees if you earn less than £25,000.
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required or sent a conditional offer according to the course's entry requirements. You will then be invited to enrol for your chosen course.
