This course will help you recognise the signs of self-harm and suicidal thoughts, understand why they happen, and learn how to respond safely and appropriately. You will explore ways to encourage individuals to seek the right support and understand your role in helping to prevent further harm. It is particularly useful for anyone with safeguarding responsibilities at work or those supporting others in their role.
The course takes around 15 weeks to complete, although this will depend on the time you have available and your existing knowledge. You can study online or using paper-based materials, with everything you need provided.
You will complete the following 4 units.
Introduction to suicide and self harm awareness
Recognising signs of suicide and self harm in individuals
Principles of suicide and self harm prevention
Support for individuals when dealing with grief after suicide
This qualification is designed to increase understanding of self-harm and suicide, helping you recognise the signs, start supportive conversations, and encourage people to seek help. By raising awareness across all areas of society, the course aims to support early intervention and help prevent further harm and suicide.
You must be over 19. You are asked to describe what you hope to achieve from the course during enrolment. This helps us to provide you with the right advice and ensure you are on the right course and at the right level.
If you are not a British Citizen you may have to complete a Fee Assessment to ensure you qualify for government funding.

The level 2 distance learning courses are funded which is great news. If you are not a British Citizen you may need to complete a fee assessment to check funding eligibility.
Please note that, upon successful completion of your course, you will receive an e-certificate by email. Printed certificates are not provided as standard.
Awarding organisations have moved away from issuing physical certificates to support environmental sustainability, reduce their carbon footprint, and make it easier to obtain a replacement certificate if required.
If you would like a printed certificate, this can be requested at a cost of £46, payable by the learner.
