This qualification is aimed at adult students who wish to become emergency first-aiders in the workplace or learn the skills to be able to save lives at home or in their community. Organisations that need staff training to be emergency first-aiders can utilise this training to meet health and safety requirements.
The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider and how to assess an incident. You will learn first aid skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), providing first aid to a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock. During the course you will learn the following: - The role and responsibilities of a first aider. - Assessment of an emergency situation safely - Providing first aid to an unresponsive casualty - Provide first aid to a casualty who is choking - Provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding - Provide first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock - Provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
To be eligable to apply for this course students must be: - Minimum of 19 years of age. - Physically capable of completing the practical assessment. - Minimum of Level 1 in English.
This qualification is assessed by: - Practical assessment: The practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. This ongoing assessment requires you to demonstrate practical first aid skills. The practical assessment is completed throughout the course delivery. (Covering CPR, bleeding, treatment of an unconscious casualty.) - Centre-marked multiple-choice theory assessment - You are required to pass a 15-question multiple-choice theory paper. The multiple-choice assessment is internally assessed by the assessor. In order to pass, learners must achieve at least 70% (11/15). Further/oral questioning can be undertaken if learners do not achieve the required pass mark.
