Achieve a mathematics Functional Skills qualification at level 1 or 2. This is a 2-week Intensive course starting 30th June, running daily from 9.30 am to 3.00 pm each day. The exam will be on Friday 11th July 2025. You must be available to attend all sessions and complete work independently and on time. Functional skills are practical and applied skills in mathematics that allow you to work confidently, effectively, and independently at home and at work. It is a recognised qualification by colleges and employers. This course is designed for individuals who already have very strong underpinning mathematics skills very close to either level 1 or level 2 but may require the development of their ability to apply those skills and techniques effectively to secure an accredited qualification.
Functional skills in maths at level 1 and level 2 are designed to develop your ability to represent situations using mathematics, analyse calculations, solve problems, and interpret mathematics to explain situations. These qualifications allow you to demonstrate a sound grasp of the underpinning skills and basics of mathematical skills appropriate to the level, and apply mathematical thinking to solve simple problems in familiar situations.
You must have strong underpinning skills at either level 1 or level 2 but require the development of your functional skills. You must be able to attend every day of teaching and be available for the exam date. You must also be able to work independently for up to 3 hours per day during the course. You must be 19 or over on 31 August 2024, and not already hold an equivalent qualification. Course placement will be dependent on an initial assessment. You may be signposted to a more suitable course on completion of your assessment. This course requires full attendance.
Final assessment is an exam at the end of the course. You will be assessed on calculator and non-calculator skills. These are externally assessed exams and you would normally receive your result within 4 weeks.
Apply online and you will be invited in for an initial assessment. Once you have taken this you will either be offered a place on this course or signposted to a course which is more suitable to your level.
