The Advanced Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship Course is designed for individuals that have achieved previous carpentry qualifications and are looking to advance their carpentry skills. It is a course for individuals who seek to expand their technical abilities, advance their craftsmanship, and prepare for leadership roles within the carpentry industry.
Over the duration of the course, apprentices will deepen their understanding of complex carpentry techniques, work on sophisticated project designs, and develop the precision, efficiency, and problem-solving skills needed to excel in high-stakes building and woodworking environments.
The course covers a blend of theory, hands-on practice, and project-based learning, focusing on advanced construction techniques, bespoke carpentry tasks, double doors, roofing, framing, and finishing. Apprentices will learn to work with a wide range of materials, including various types of wood and composite materials, and will be trained on both traditional and modern tools, including advanced power tools and specialised hand tools. The course will have a more in depth focus on H S and carpentry processes, and also has a mandatory fire door awareness qualification incorporated.
The course is structured around a combination of workshop practical, supervised workplace tasks, and assessments. Apprentices will work under the mentorship of experienced tradespeople in the workplace. In college they will be taught by experienced staff, receive feedback on their work, and have opportunities to apply their skills on real-world projects. To complete the course the apprentices will complete an End Point Assessment (EPA) that consists of a knowledge test, practical assessment, and professional discussion interview. These will be based on overall knowledge of the trade, technical skill, attention to detail, time management, and overall project execution.
Applicants must have achieved a level 2 or equivalent grade in both English and maths.
Applications below the entry requirements will be subject to initial assessments
Applicants must be employed and meet the requirements for apprenticeship funding.
