It’s showtime on Musical Theatre BTEC course
To help her to achieve her career goals of performing and directing in the theatre or on cruises, Ava Winterton is studying a BTEC in Musical Theatre at Leicester College.
“Some of my family and friends had been previously involved with the College so it was a natural choice when it came to looking at musical theatre courses,” says Ava. “I chose the BTEC as it gave me the opportunity to be more involved, to focus on the practical element. I could experience first-hand at the Sue Townsend Theatre and be part of it, not just sit in a classroom all the time.
“I wanted to see musical theatre as more of a career than a hobby.
“One of the standouts in the first year was the London trip where we saw three West End shows, experienced the performers at the theatre café diner and took part in a workshop at the theatre studios with a Leicester College alumni.
“I’d recommend the course to others. It throws you into things in a good way. Although there are high expectations for us, we’re allowed to be comfortable and are expertly guided throughout.”
